Family ‘strike’ it lucky at being rehomed.
Many of us experienced the voracity of the recent summer storms, however, the home of one Sittingbourne family were fortunate enough to escape when their home was hit.
The couple, Mr and Mrs Jeffery’s, visited many local letting agents, trawled through websites and many newspapers in order to search for a property to let, however, finding a suitable home proved to be a real challenge.
Their story was picked up by the Sittingbourne News Extra and came to the attention of Gordon Henderson MP, who is in regular contact with Swale based agent, Family Homes, who were able to secure a tenancy for Mr and Mrs Jeffery on the very same day. Mr Jeffery, pictured with his wife collecting the keys to their home, expressed his appreciation to Gordon Henderson and his team, and to Helen Page (pictured) and the Family Homes staff, for their friendly and flexible approach in helping them during their hour of need.
Sunil Popat, Director of Family Homes (who are celebrating 25 years in business), said, “The reason we were able to help Mr and Mrs Jeffery, was mainly due to being a long established local family owned company who are able react very quickly to customer needs.
Gordon Henderson added, “It is crucial for me and my team to be able to work effectively with local businesses, in order to help more members of our community. The focus of working with business people in Swale is very close to my heart, and this sad situation just highlights what can be achieved very quickly with sound business relationships with local business owners.”

Local business celebrates 25 years
Local MP Gordon Henderson further demonstrated his support for Swale businesses when he recently presented an award for long service. Family Homes, a Swale based lettings and estate agent, received its award for 25 years in business at a dinner held at Parliament that was arranged for local business leaders.
On presenting the award, Gordon Henderson MP commented “I’m always delighted to be able to recognise the achievements and longevity of a local business. Here is yet another example of how Swale businesses continue to grow, adding to our local economy and communities.”
Sunil and Gita Popat, on receiving the award for Family Homes, said “We’d like to thank Gordon for presenting us with this award recognizing our 25 years in business, and for working with us during recent years. Receiving this award in the magnificent surroundings of the Houses of Parliament was a real bonus, and here’s to the next 25 years”.
Family Homes has recently opened a second office in Faversham, and offers property maintenance, legal services, mortgages, and a landlord information service in addition to its sales and lettings agency services.
The dinner, held in late March 2014, was organised by Sittingbourne and Sheppey Portcullis Business Club, and sponsored by the Club’s President Gordon Henderson MP. During the evening, members and guests heard from the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Nicky Morgan MP, following the recent budget announcements.
Gordon will also be officially opening the extension to the Family Homes Sittingbourne office on Friday 4th April.

Volunteer Swale Awards
Recognition was given recently to the people of Swale who give their time to benefit our community. Family Homes, an established local lettings and estate agent, were delighted to sponsor the award for The Business Contribution to Volunteering award.
The award winners, AmicusHorizon’s ICT team, transformed Quinton Hall over two days, by refurbishing external and internal surfaces and installing a new kitchen. This has enabled the hall to be used by the youth club to provide hot meals, and for the nursery to offer parent cookery classes.
Sunil and Gita Popat of Family Homes, said on presenting the award “Businesses across Swale have a great opportunity to support the communities in which we live and work. We were honoured to be part of this inaugural event and to hear the inspiring stories from the finalists this evening.”
